How to Guide - Fitting a 50's Style Pre-Wired Harness to an SG!

How to Guide - Fitting a 50's Style Pre-Wired Harness to an SG!

On-wards with my series of 'How to guides' showing the step-by-step process of installing one of my pre-wired guitar harnesses, this time for the iconic Gibson design, the SG. (Although this particular model is a Greco lawsuit era model, but let's not get into that too much eh!).
These models are great to work on in the sense that all of the electronics are accessible from a single control cavity, and you can even remove the pickups without taking off the strings too. So although the working space can feel a little cramped, the access to the control cavity is great and should make this a nice and simple 'how to' guide today.
How to Guide - Fitting a 3-way Pre-Wired Harness to a Telecaster!

How to Guide - Fitting a 3-way Pre-Wired Harness to a Telecaster!

A very long overdue 'how to guide' post here today looking at the step by step process of install one of our Signature Series 3 way Telecaster wiring harnesses! Telecasters are an iconic modular design, making them very easy to work on, but I hope this guide helps you during your harness install if it is a new task to you. Here I will break down each and every step during the install process including removing the original wiring and installing your new harness. For this example, I will be retaining the original pickups but very similar steps would follow if you were to be installing new pickups and a harness at the same time. I will write a post about swapping pickups on a Telecaster in due course though too!
Pre-Wired harness common questions!

Pre-Wired harness common questions!

I've been proudly making, developing and installing my pre-wired guitar harnesses since the beginning of the Home of Tone back in 2015 (time flies when you're having fun right!). Although I feel I do my best in covering as much information as possible already across the various product listings, fitting guides and wiring diagrams and more, I thought it might be helpful to put together this article answering some of the common questions my customers ask either prior to ordering or prior/during installing in your guitar. I'm going to delve into a variety of questions for a range of the harnesses, but I'll try to do so in a clear way to help you find the info you are looking for!

With every pre-wired harness I ship out, I supply a handy fitting guide with tips and key points to follow to make the install go as smoothly as possible, alongside  a simple to follow wiring diagram. But, and understandably of course, sometimes translating that info to the real world when the soldering iron is smoldering away can be a little daunting if you're not used to it. So I've wanted to create a step-by-step guide to fitting one of my Home of Tone pre-wired Les Paul 50s Style harnesses! I will follow soon with a Modern Style wiring fitting guide too :)

I want to replace my guitar's wiring, would it make a difference?

I want to replace my guitar's wiring, would it make a difference?

Replacing, or in some cases, upgrading your guitar's wiring may be a matter of necessity if there are niggling faults like faulty switches or noisy pots perhaps. But you may also have considered replacing it as a way of improving or modifying the guitar too. So the big question is of course, would it make any difference?
That's ultimately what I'm hoping to address in this post! I'm looking to touch on the various aspects of guitar wiring components, what to look for and why it would, or wouldn't positively help the guitar in question sound it's best.
