Jackson Brooksby demos the FUZZMASTER

Jackson Brooksby demos the FUZZMASTER

I recently contacted the lovely dude, Jackson Brooksby, about making some audio/visual demos of my recent collab product with NRG effects, the Fuzzmaster harness! So I packed up the old trusty demo duty Jazzmaster which currently has the prototype Fuzzmaster harness installed and sent it Jackson's way for him to have some fun with and record some clips so we could share it's sounds with the world. He's done a fantastic job capturing the sounds from the harness and circuit, pleased to hear it in action!

One of my absolutely favourite sets from the McNelly range, the 46/58 is a wonderfully dynamic pickup that captures the chime and bass response we associate with the Jazzmaster along with the mid-rangy dynamic of a great P90. They're a hybrid design, which is where the name '46/58' comes into play, as they're the market introduction years of the Gibson P90, and the Fender Jazzmaster single coil which is a nice tip of the hat to their inspiration.

For me, the Jazzmaster totally reset the bar of what I wanted from a guitar. The Chime, overall feel, scale, string tension and versatility spoke to me instantly. This is the same for so many of my customers, so I wanted to highlight the range of Jazzmaster pickup options available through us, how you can capture the classic JM tones and how you can mix it up a little without the need for re-routing or a new pickguard. So let's dive right in.

Project Offset Phase two - Modding & tackling common Import obstacles.

If you have a guitar you're planning on modifying, chances are that it will be an import instrument. There's good reason for that, they offer great quality bang for buck resulting in a great base for tweaks here and there than perhaps a more premium, pricier American made equivalent would. Let's face it, not everyone who's just spend £1500+ on a USA made instrument wants to go at it replacing bridges or pickups, so the import market offers great scope for DIY tweaking.

One task that's always at the top of my 'To-Do' list, is creating a collection of demo videos for the entire McNelly Pickups Range. Although I've recorded videos with some beautiful premium guitars, without doubt the best way of demo-ing pickups is by upgrading more 'budget' instruments. Why? Well this is a great way of not hiding behind quality woods and materials. If it sounds great, then it's mostly because of the pickups!
