Pre-Wired Guitar wiring harness | Gold Les Paul Toggle Switch kit | Right Handed

£40.25

About
The toggle switches on a Les Paul take on some serious use over the years, becoming a little noisy or loose feeling meaning sometimes it's just best to replace them. If you're not too confident with a soldering iron, it can be a frustrating task. I've had these harnesses available as an add on when ordering a Les Paul pot harness so have decided to make them available on their own too.

Options

Switch spec
Switchcraft now thankfully make both their traditional long frame switch, as well as the short frame version in gold. I offer this pre-wired switch with both options as ultimately it comes down to what your guitar will fit. Not all Les Pauls can fit a traditional long frame switch, so this is where the short frame version becomes really useful. To be able to fit the long frame spec switch, your switch cavity needs to be a minimum of 40mm deep. Some variants of Gibson Les Pauls, Epiphone Les Pauls and numerous copy style Les Pauls won't have that and will be a little shallower. This is where the short frame version becomes particularly useful as the switch once mounted only internally measures 24mm. So for tighter/shallower cavities, the short frame versions offers a great deal more versatility in terms of fitment. Both are quality Switchcraft items. If you're not sure what your cavity depth is, or which switch you need, then the safe bet is the short frame as that will fit every variant/body style.

With additional extended knurled nut - long frame option only
The traditional long frame toggle switch only has a very shallow mounting thread depth (just under 5mm, which once you have the mounting nut captured on the thread reduces to closer to 2mm), meaning it will likely only fit through very, very thin guitar tops for example. So I offer the option of including an extended thread mount nut with the pre-wired switch. These extended thread mount nuts are super common on Les Pauls equipped with this spec switch as it's the only way you can realistically mount the switch without recessing the top! With the extended nut fitted and captured on the thread, the mounting depth increases to a max of around 6mm which is a lot better for fitting to the guitar without modification.

I only offer this additional nut alongside the long frame switch as it simply isn't required on the short frame spec switch. The short frame switch has a mounting thread depth of 9mm, and with the standard nut captured on the thread leaves you with a mounting depth of 7mm so plenty for comfortable fit on a variety of models.

Switch Tip
I offer these pre-wired switches with the option of a switch tip if you need one. If you don't simply select 'no tip'.

Which wire is which?
To help make the install process easier, I use colour coded heat shrink and/or colour coded wires depending on the wire type chosen. So here is a list of which colour indicated wire connects where -

Right handed guitars
