Stock feature - 2022 Jennings Guitars 'Navigator' 62 Tele Custom inspired build
Let's take a closer look at one of my recent custom guitars for stock, with a beautiful 'Navigator' model by Jennings Guitars.
For this build I took inspiration from one of my favourite eras of vintage Telecasters, the 62 Custom, and opted for a double bound model, but with some superb Jennings character and unique boutique specs.
The body is roasted swamp ash and is finished in a beautiful exposed grain satin black top and back. The sides however have been left natural, showing off the caramel like colour of the roasted body wood. I love this contrast look, particular with the parchment colour binding either side really helping the colours pop. It's a classic string through configuration, but thanks to the high spec Mastery M3.2 bridge you could top load it should you wish. To match up with the binding, the pickguard is also parchment which I think ties in nicely to the vintage inspired clay dot markers too. Nestled within that Mastery bridge and parchment pickguard are a pair of McNelly Pickups, with a 'Duckling' in the neck position (a Strat neck pickup inspired design in traditional Tele size) and a 'A5 Signature Plus' bridge pickup. I've spec'd Teles with this pairing in the past and is a personal favourite combo for versatility, classic tones & dynamic response.
The neck is roasted quartersawn maple, incredibly stable! Finished in satin lacquer, so nice and smooth to play, and is shaped to Chad's standard C profile (.85"/21.6mm at the 1st & .91"/23.2mm at the 12th) With an Indian Rosewood fingerboard at a 9.5" radius topped off with a hand cut bone nut. The headstock features a colour matching satin black and exposed roasted maple stepped design, with Kluson deluxe vintage style enclosed tuners. The whole guitar weighs in at a super lightweight 7lbs, which as you can imagine results in a very acoustically resonant instrument. A super T-Style guitar, made by one man in sunny California, an honour to represent such a build here!
I have been recording some short demo clips like the one below, and posting those over on my social media, but I am planning some slightly more formal YouTube videos for it if I can get my playing up to an acceptable standard ASAP!
