About
This lovely late 90s Jag came to me initially for a setup and general checkover/TLC booking from a local customer, who has now decided to sell and kindly asked me for my help with that too.
It is a 'CIJ' or 'Crafted in Japan' Fender model, produced between 1997-1999 based on it's serial number information in the Tokai Japan factory. These, (which you will already know if you're here viewing the listing) are very well respected guitars. Some of the best Japanese made Fender guitars, and this is certainly another great example of that. I have been lucky to work on a lot of MIJ and CIJ Fenders over the years, in particular the offset models like Jags and Jazzmasters and all of them have been superb instruments. This example is definitely up there with those expectations for me.
It is the JG-66 variant, so essentially a 1966 type reissue spec Jaguar. It is all original, with the only exception being the vibrato arm, which I sourced a replacement for when the guitar came to me for it's setup work this year. I have given all of the electronics a check over, and clean with quality contact cleaner. I have set it up with Stringjoy 11-50 strings, the neck angle is great which allowed for the bridge to be set to a great angle for optimal tension aiding stability on it's rocking traditional bridge design. I was really pleased how the setup went on this guitar, plays and feels great.
Overall condition is good, I would place it as a 8.5/10. It has been well cared for many years by it's existing owner. There are signs of pick/plectrum marks in the strumming area, and the odd small mark here and there which I have documented in the photos. However, if you would like some more photos, different angles of any of the marks, do just drop me a message and I'll help with those. Frets are in good condition, very very minor signs of early fret wear but I'd place the frets as a 9.5/10 condition wise. I have also carried out a level check and full polish on those too.
Colour is lovely and vibrant, I don't feel it has aged or sun bleached. The pickguard has gone a lovely parchment soft white colour, and the pickup covers have yellowed a little which is to expected for it's age.
A genuine instrument here, I jumped at the chance to offer it here as it's a great example of a great era of Japanese made Fender guitars.
No case included, but if you would like a gig bag or case supplied additionally, drop me a message. I have access to a great range of bags and cases, from more budget friendly options to the full genuine Fender hardcases too.
