About

'HS' configuration guitars, like a humbucker neck position equipped Telecaster for example, has long presented guitarists with a decision to make in regards to pot values. Go with 500k pots and the humbucker sounds perfect, but the single coil sounds too bright. Go with 250k pots and the single coil sounds perfect, but the humbucker sounds too muddy. I have dealt with this compromise by using the popular 470kOhm resistor mod, which works great (using 500k pots but wiring a 470kOhm resistor between the single coil 'hot' connection at the switch, and ground). But another solution is this superb dual pot, produced by CTS for Fender. They are a pretty rare bird though, I have only ever personally seen them on one production Fender model, and that was a Masterbuilt Custom Shop HS Tele!
But what are they? So this is a stacked pot, but instead of a dual pot shaft like the ones you'd find on the '61 Jazz Basses, it just has a single pot shaft. So it is two pots, operated via one pot shaft/one control knob. One pot is 250k, the other is 500k, making it a superb option for something like a 'HS' spec Telecaster. Run two of these pots, one in the volume position, one in the tone, and wire them up so that each pickup uses the pot value it performs best with.

These are only available with a split shaft, so best suited for 24 fine knurl spline push-fit control knobs. If you want to fit control knobs perhaps more traditionally known on Telecasters like the grub screw secured barrel knobs, I would recommend additionally purchasing some split-to-solid shaft conversion sleeves.

The 'pot' closest to the mounting surface/pot shaft, is the 500k side, and the outer pot (furthest from the mounting surface/pot shaft) is the 250k side. Both 250k and 500k are audio/logarithmic taper.

Spec/What's included

1x 250k/500k stacked pot w/ mounting hardware (star washer & nut)
Comes in original Fender® packaging.

Pot is a short shaft spec (mounting thread length of just over 5mm) making it only really suitable for control plates and pickguards, and requires a 10mm hole diameter.
