About Suhr

John Suhr has a incredible history in the guitar world, from his work at Rudy's Music Stop as a repairer to the iconic instruments made alongside Rudy with the Pensa-Suhr instruments. Amp and rig building for countless names, to his work as a senior master builder in the Fender Custom Shop, to beginning his journey with his own brand. It is a history anyone in the guitar industry would dream of, and the guitars built under the Suhr brand are well respected throughout. With a clear respect for electric guitar history, whilst looking firmly into the future too.

About 2013 Classic T Antique

This is a factory relic 'Antique' version of Suhr's 'Classic T' model, made in the Lake Elsinore, California based Suhr factory. The Classic T is of course based on the Telecaster model, and features some iconic specs that makes a Tele great. But with modern comfort and spec details that make this a guitar above the rest. Comfort body contours in the heel, belly and arm make it a breeze the play, alongside some superb fretting hand details like the compound radius fingerboard and quality stainless steel frets. This particular example is the 'Antique' factory relic model, of which it's thin nitro-cellulose finish has continued to naturally age and check through it's lifetime which looks superb. The relic work to the neck is subtle, and feels great in your palm during play.
It is a lightweight, resonant guitar, super comfy, plays ground and sounds superb. This model is an earlier Suhr production model, so doesn't have the 'dummy' coil like the newer examples, which in my personal opinion is a good thing. Yes, the dummy coil spec helps in regards to handling 60 cycle hum, but personally having worked on a number of newer Suhr's here at the workshop, they didn't sound any where near as good as this one. So if that's the compromise, then it's well worth it in my humble opinion. It is wired with a CRL 3 way switch, and a pair of CTS 250k audio taper pots, a Suhr spec treble bleed on the volume control, along with a 0.047uF tone cap. I must say, it is wired incredibly neatly out the factory too, and this comes from someone who professionally wires guitars, it is good work for sure. Upon taking this one in, the tone pot was particularly crackly, I gave it a clean out, but felt replacing was the best course of action, so a quality CTS 450G 250k solid shaft pot has gone in there, with the original in the case for safe keeping. Otherwise, all wiring and pickups etc are the originals and working/sounding superb.
It has brass, adjustable compensated Wilkinson saddles nestled within a vintage style ashtray bridge. Locking Sperzel tuners, with staggered posts negating the need for a string tree. It has a compensated nut to further improve intonation. Frets are in superb condition, as expected for quality stainless steel frets. I have given those a good polish up, along with a refinement of it's setup on Elixir 10-46 strings before it heads out with a new owner.
It has a heel truss rod adjustment nut, which is accesible via a cutout in the factory pickguard. The checking on the finish looks ace in person I must add.

Please check out the photos for detailed coverage of the guitar, all aspects photographed including the pickups, cavities and wiring for you.
