Pre-Wired Bass Guitar wiring harness | Bass VI kit | Right Handed

Order times
I usually make harnesses to order, due to the variety of spec options that could be chosen across the whole range. The current turnaround time for a harness orders is around 5-7 working days depending on quantity of orders in at the time and your order will be updated accordingly when it is dispatched. This turnaround time doesn't include the transit time. Thanks for your patience whilst I get your harness made!

The Bass VI is a rather unique instrument, aesthetics, string spacing, vibrato unit & control layouts resembling more of a guitar, or baritone than a bass, but it is classed as a Bass nonetheless! Certainly a quirky instrument, and although they saw fleeting fame in their earlier years of production thanks to bands like Fleetwood Mac, the Beatles and Cream for example playing them for studio work, performances & TV appearances. Their production ceased in the mid-70s, only seeing short burst re-issues by the custom shop since then. But in more recent years, the Bass VI saw a more permanent return, particularly by Squier and their popular Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe series which provides the market with an affordable, yet pretty vintage accurate spec Bass VI which has boosted it's popularity and intrigue a great deal.

It's electronics specs most closely resemble that of the Fender Jaguar, with a 2 way slide switch operating each pickup along with a 4th slide switch acting as a 'strangle switch' or 'bass cut', a fixed value capacitor providing the player with further tonal options. Then we see the usual volume, tone and jack socket.

The component specs for this replacement/upgrade wiring harness are true to original specs but of course with some great quality components that will help get the best out of your instrument along with providing reliable performance for years to come. It has 1MEG volume and tone pots, with a .047uF tone capacitor and I have opted for a treble bleed capacitor kit on the volume control to further help improve the sweep and use-ablity of the audio taper volume control for the player. The slide switches are all Switchcraft items, along with a ceramic disk .003nF capacitor for the strangle switch wired together with quality Gavitt 22awg colour coded cloth covered wire and sturdy 20swg copper bus wire for ground connections.

Due to the body routing, and more importantly, wire channels found in Bass VI  bodies, I cannot provide this as a complete drop in harness, I instead have to supply it in two sections. Which would then have the final connections made in situ upon install.

I have intended for my wiring harnesses to be as simple as possible to install to your Bass VI as well as a simple to follow wiring diagram.
The parts I use, in particular the pots, are CTS branded pots which are imperial measurements.
For reference, the CTS pots I use in this harness have a shaft diameter of 9.52mm, which will need a pot mounting hole drilled to 10mm to accommodate this measurement. If fitting to a Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI, you will need to widen the pot holes on the control plate. This can be safely done using a step cutter drill bit, or I also offer a service of widening control plate pot holes so if this is something you'd find helpful, please drop me an e-mail and we can organise getting your plate to me.

The Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI's control knobs, at least on the testing model I worked on to develop this kit, already were suitable for CTS spec solid shaft 6.35mm pots. But if for any reason yours has different sized control knobs and you require new ones, then I do carry a selection of popular options in stock and they can be viewed in the hardware & plastic hardware categories on the store. You will need control knobs that will fit 6.35mm diameter solid shaft pots.

Due to how the Bass VI body is routed, this harness comes supplied in two sections, the pickup selection and strangle switch section and the lead circuit pots section. The wires need feeding through the bodies wire channel then soldering the final connections when in situ. This is shown in the wiring diagram and wires are clearly marked by their colour coding to help further with this.
