Description
The 335/330 is one of, if not my most favourite Gibson guitar design. The 'Electric Spanish' semi-hollow body design is incredibly versatile and capable of some superb guitar tones. I truly hope my harness for the 335 helps bring out the best in this instrument, and hope the subtle component choices I have made help make the install that little bit easier. 335s are a little feared by guitarists when it comes to doing wiring work, due to limited accessibility via the thin F-Holes. I have chosen items like the Switchcraft 'Short Frame' 3 way toggle switch, which is smaller in overall size than a traditional Switchcraft switch, making fitting it through the f-hole easier as well as having a much longer thread length making it easier to mount up once inside the guitar. I have also chosen my usual Pure Tone multi contact jack socket for this very reason too, featuring an extended thread length as standard to help mounting that little bit easier.
Wired '50s' style.
This specific kit has been made using USA made Jupiter Bumblebee Paper In Oil vintage reproduction tone caps. This isn't a spec I usually offer, I made them for display at The Guitar Show 2024 as a nice centre piece type item. This kit would be great for a vintage inspired project!
Installing
I have intended for my wiring harnesses to be as simple as possible to install to your 335/330/casino, as well as writing in depth fitting guides, how-to instructions documenting the step by step process as well as a simple to follow wiring diagram.
The parts I use, in particular the pots, are CTS branded pots which are imperial measurements. If you're fitting this harness to a far east built variant for example such as a Epiphone or similar, then you may have to widen the holes in the body to accommodate for these imperial measurement pots.
For reference, the CTS pots I use in this harness have a shaft diameter of 9.52mm and I tend to widen the body holes to 10mm to suit.
You may also require new control knobs to fit the CTS pot 'split shaft' diameter of 5.95mm and 24 spline.
If you do require US spec control knobs, we do carry a selection of popular options in stock and they can be viewed in the hardware & plastic hardware categories on the store.
Centre to centre measurements between components are -
Centre of Switch to neck volume pot - 48mm
Centre of neck volume pot to centre of neck tone pot - 66mm
Centre of neck volume pot to bridge volume pot - 67mm
Centre of bridge volume pot to bridge tone pot - 65mm
Centre of neck tone pot to jack socket - 65mm
