So this kit makes some simple revisions that were intended to be a modern interpretation of the Jaguar control layout.

If you've played a traditionally wired Jaguar, you may have noticed that the lead circuit's tone control impacts the overall output/volume too. This is a byproduct of the original circuit design, with the signal from the pickup(s) heading to the lead circuit tone control input lug first, via a 56kOhm resistor then from the tone controls output lug to the volume pots input lug. I can't answer why Leo and his team back in the early 60s opted for this (the early 50s 'Tele' P-Bass had a similar wiring scheme in that sense too) at least within a product description that is! Perhaps I'll put together a blog article discussing this approach in good time. Instead, for this 'modern' interpretation I have changed this to a more traditional volume/tone control layout for a more predictable response.

In recent years, one of my kits for the Jazzmaster has become increasingly popular, and that is allowing pickup selection in the upper rhythm circuit. This really opens up the versatility of that circuit, and I wanted to incorporate it here. I initially wondered about repurposing the strangle switch too, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that the strangle switch would actually be quite useful in the rhythm circuit, adding yet another tonal flavour to this otherwise often neglected rhythm position. So on this particular kit, you can enjoy essentially two full circuits within one guitar. Pickup selection in both the upper rhythm, and lower lead circuits as well as making use of your strange switch in either circuit too. Lots of tonal options, retaining the traditional aesthetics/switch/control positions, but making things a little more predictable in a modern guitar sense.

If you love Jaguars, but have felt a little restricted by the traditional controls, then perhaps this modern revision may suit you. I offer it with the traditional lead circuit 1MEG / 0.010mfd pot and cap specs, or with 500k / 0.022mfd pot and cap specs if you perhaps find the traditional sound too bright for your tastes. I also offer it with or without a lead circuit treble bleed mod on the volume control.

Due to the body routing, and more importantly, wire channels found in traditional Jaguar bodies, I cannot provide this as a complete drop in harness, I instead have to supply it in three sections. I do feel that installing a pre-wired guitar harness is do-able for many guitarists but only if the correct tools are used and care is taken to ensure you do not damage the kit, your guitar or yourself! There are detailed installation guides here on my website, as well as simple to follow wiring diagrams all to help make the process as easy as possible and in my experience, these have helped thousands of my customers carry out their own install. But if for any reason you have concerns about fitting the kit yourself which is entirely understandable, then I'm sure you'll agree that it is likely best to have a professional fit the kit and help ensure your purchased kit, and your beloved guitar are both looked after and worked on correctly.
If you are local to me (Stourbridge, West Midlands) I take on guitar work no problem at all so will certainly be able to help install your Signature Series harness.

Will the pots/jack fit my control plates and jack plate?
The components I use in my Signature Series wiring kits are for the most part, USA imperial specification, and will be a direct replacement for a genuine USA or Mexico made Fender Jaguar. If you're fitting this harness to different model/spec of Jaguar, or a far east built guitar such as a Squier or similar brand, then you may have to widen the holes in the control plates to accommodate for these imperial measurement pots. The CTS pots and Pure Tone multi contact jack have a mounting thread shaft diameter of 0.369" / 9.38mm so I recommend for ease of install a control plate with 0.394" / 10mm pot/jack mounting holes. You can easily widen the holes in the control plate too if you would prefer, I recommend doing this safely with a step cutter drill bit. I have worked on guitars for many years, and built these kits professionally since 2015, and as a result have been able to see and experience working on the majority of components available on the market. In my findings, A/B testing and more, I have found the components I decided on for my Signature Series to be the most reliable, best tolerance and great functioning parts to use to help customers get the most out of their instruments. I use CTS '450' series premium spec pots as they have a tight tolerance, and will consistently provide me with accurate value, as well as very solid build quality. I use trusty 'Mustard' style polyester film 'tone' capacitors as in my opinion they simply can't be beat for great value, solid construction, solid lead-outs, super tight tolerances and reliable tone/function. I would personally much rather use a trusty Mustard for example over something like a paper in oil, as from experience that are so much more reliable to use. This is from carrying out a lot of A/B testing, both tonally, as well as armed with the multi-meter for testing values and actual tolerances, as well as handling them to test construction quality for long lasting reliability in use. I use the brilliant 'Pure Tone' Multi Contact Jack sockets as they are incredibly reliable, due to their additional contact points for both tip and sleeve. I use CRL, Oak and Switchcraft brand switches across the range as these are built very well, with care will last for many years to come and have long since provided me with reliable use professionally. All kits are wired up with quality USA made Gavitt wire, it's great to work with, super consistent gauge and provides me with a very reliable quality item for my kits. I totally understand that with anything guitar, it is subjective, but I have, with an open mind, thoroughly tested a broad variety of components over the years and these have all become the items I trust to use every day.

Harness FAQ's

I've been proudly making, developing and installing my pre-wired guitar harnesses since the beginning of the Home of Tone back in 2015 (time flies when you're having fun right!).
