Jennings Guitars - Catalina

The boutique guitar world is thriving and the level of creativity among the luthiers is possibly the best it has been in a very long time. Boutique guitars should posses a real 'wow' factor upon case opening, and the instruments from the Jennings workshop truly capture that. It really is an experience from first handling the custom made, G&G tweed hardshell case to getting the guitar in your hands for those first few notes, it's incredibly special and I'm so proud to offer these instruments.

So, what is the story behind the Catalina? The Catalina was designed after some of Chad and Devin's favorite sought after hollow bodies, maintaining the punch of the bigger bodied instruments, but in a smaller, more comfortable body. Play-ability is increase to the higher frets due to the offset horns and curved heel design. Just like the Voyager it features premium hand selected tone woods as well as the same light action and ease of play-ability.

This particular Catalina was inspired by some previous builds and the specifications were curated between myself and Chad Jennings. I really loved the almost Rickenbacker esq styling pointers with a classy colour combination and finish. We opted for a lightly metallic black and pearloid pickguard, combined with a matching two tone headstock and finished with a crisp black ebony fingerboard. This is the tuxedo guitar for sure! The hollow body design lends itself really well to rich humbucker tones, so to mix things up we opted for McNelly's Wild Range pickups which are McNelly's take on Fender's Wide Range humbuckers found on 70s Telecasters and other models like the Starcaster for example, another hollowbody double cut model which perhaps inspired the Catalina's design initially. It's very responsive playing feel is thanks to the tune-o-matic and stoptail bridge configuration, and plays very intuitively. A comfortable profile neck, wonderful fretwork and feel of the nitro finish make it feel played in right out of the case and really is a special experience to play.
