Home of Tone - USA made Oil-Paper tone capacitor
A lot of you have asked about these individually, so I couldn't resist any longer! These are the very same paper in oil capacitors I use on my 'Signature Series' pre-wired harnesses, and they are USA made by 'WD Music' paper-in-oil capacitors, with my UFO logo adorning them instead. When they arrive with me from WD Music, I test each one with a capacitor meter to ensure their tolerances are what they should be (+/- 10% tolerance), and put my UFO logo sleeve on. I really like these caps as a relatively good value PIO capacitor, and capture that sound/balance of trebles upon roll off, that people love about PIO caps.
They're available in either .022uF or .047uF ratings. As a rule the general recommendation is .022uF for humbuckers, .047uF for single coils. This is usually based off the pickup manufacturers recommendations, but you can of course use whichever you choose for the given application. I personally prefer .022uF for both single coil and humbuckers for example, the reason being that a .022uF will 'roll off' less treble than a .047uF, making the pot 'sweep' sound a touch more gradual. A .047uF will be an ever so slightly 'steeper' roll off of trebles. It's personal preference, but first port of call would be to check out your pickup manufacturers recommendation and go from there. For reference, all McNelly Pickups are recommended to pair with .022uF capacitors. Hope this helps!
Please note - I highly recommend handling the lead-outs with care, and due to the traditional nature of the paper in oil design, to not overdo it with the soldering iron when installing
As these are used daily in my wiring harnesses, stock is usually carried here, but I will update the listing when they are on back order. Currently both .022uF and .047uF are in stock.
