Entry Series Pre-Wired Stratocaster harness kit
The waiting time is around 2-4 working days depending on quantity of current orders and repair jobs in at the time. I'll always endeavor to turn orders around quicker and your order will be updated accordingly :)
If you have a Strat style guitar that isn't a Fender, I can happily make a harness to suit your guitar. So please feel free to get in touch, and we will compare measurements to ensure it's suitability.
About Pre-Wired Harnesses
I wrote an extensive article about replacing your guitar's wiring harness, answering the main questions about each component and the potential differences and improvements that can be had in doing so. To read the full article, click Here!
Pre-Wired harnesses offer a great solution to replace or upgrade your wiring with minimal soldering your end, as for some it's a daunting task. It may also be a great value alternative to buying all of the individual components. All harnesses are made by me here at the Home of Tone, to ensure the best possible workmanship I can.
About the 'Entry Series'
After a number of years of making my harnesses, from offering a range of options and further developing the product, it has lead me to this natural road. My Entry Series. This is a harness that offers a choice selection of upgrade parts over many stock items, at a more entry level price point. A chance to upgrade your guitar with some great components without breaking the bank.
The series features the affordable but great Orange Drop 716P capacitors and Switchcraft mono jack sockets as standard. Along with the brilliant CTS 'TVT' series +/-5% tolerance pots, German made solid copper 22awg wire with modern insulation and a lacquered cotton braid finish and a Oak 5 way wafer switch.
If you're upgrading from perhaps standard import or Japanese built guitars which have metric sized pots, you may need to widen the holes in your pickguard etc to accommodate the slight larger US made quality pots we use. If you are fitting this harness to a USA built Stratocaster, there is a good chance it already has imperial, US spec components meaning this will be a direct fit.
All harnesses come with fitting notes and a wiring diagram, but I have also written a fitting step-by-step guide for Strats which can be read here on the blog!
About the Strat Wiring
The wiring schematic we use for our Strat wiring harness ultilises these controls and positions. It makes sense to have the bridge pickup attached to a tone pot, no brainer.
Tone 1 - Neck and Middle
Tone 2 - Bridge
Position 1 - Bridge
Position 2 - Middle and Bridge Parallel
Position 3 - Middle
Position 4 - Neck and Middle Parallel
Position5 - Neck
- CTS 'TVT' Series +/-5% Tolerance shortshaft pots - 250k, split shaft pots as standard on Strat kits.
- Orange Drop 716P capacitor. .022uF or .047uF depending on your preference/requirement.
- German made 22AWG wire
- Switchcraft mono jack socket
- Oak 5 way wafer switch
Which Capacitor Value will I need?
As a rule the general recommendation is .022uF for humbuckers, .047uF for single coils. This is usually based off the pickup manufacturers recommendations, but you can of course use whichever you choose for the given application. I personally prefer .022uF for both single coil and humbuckers for example, the reason being that a .022uF will 'roll off' less treble than a .047uF, making the pot 'sweep' sound a touch more gradual. A .047uF will be an ever so slightly 'steeper' roll off of trebles. It's personal preference, but first port of call would be to check out your pickup manufacturers recommendation and go from there. For reference, all McNelly Pickups are recommended to pair with .022uF capacitors. Hope this helps!
What comes with my harness?
You'll be supplied with the wiring harness itself of course, along with a printed wiring diagram to follow during fitting (which is also available to view via a link in the footer of my website along with lots of other handy wiring diagrams) as well as a handy fitting guide with tips to help make the fitting process as simple as possible. The harness also comes mounted on an MDF template, which might be handy for future use too!
