Prisma Guitars UK
Prisma Guitars are the result of a passion for the guitar, and an obsession with skateboarding. Two things that have been intertwined with youth culture and beyond since the birth of Skateboarding in the 60s and 70s. A by product of surfing, which of course is synonymous with music and the guitar too.

Nick Pourfard found himself injured through skateboarding and he needed a hobby to keep him ticking over until things improved, woodworking became just that which naturally developed into an interest in building guitars. With Skateboarding still very much in his mind, he wanted to make a guitar for himself which was created out of the maple skateboard decks. Was this even possible? Where do you start? All questions Nick had to ask himself, but they were soon answered as he figured out a way to make the dream a reality.

Nick has now been building guitars since the age of 18, and started Prisma Guitars in 2014 after a demand and interest for his unique instruments quickly grown.

After growing up in San Diego, Nick is now based in San Francisco and works from his humble workshop filled to the brim with old, recycled skateboards which are mostly all donated locally. California is of course well known for it's skateboarding culture, so a steady supply of old, unused decks is something Nick doesn't have to worry about much. Local skate shops, parks and of course skaters all provide the materials which would otherwise be cast to the waste site. This is a incredible way to recycle these otherwise unwanted items to create another form of expression.

Nick's unique work and take on the guitar as we know it has been gathering momentum fast since it's creation. Linking his passion for skateboarding and it's culture, Nick has set about creating top luthier grade instruments using bare, recycled rock maple skateboard decks as the base material. Whether it's the body, the fretboard inlays, the control knobs or even the pickup covers courtesy of McNelly Pickups, one way or another, a skateboard has influenced it's final product.

Due to many of the hard rock maple ply's in a skateboard deck being dyed vivid colours, these layers create wonderful swirls and splashes of colour which simply can't be replicated more than once. Each guitar unique, each guitar's colour a surprise, each guitar embodying it's own style and personality before it's even finished and making it's sounds via the hands of it's player.

Combining more than one passion in Nick's life, a love of Skateboarding and a love for the Guitar, has resulted something truly special, something truly unique and something that speaks volumes for itself. I am incredibly proud to be bringing Nick's work to the UK for the first time, I have been a fan since first seeing one of his guitars under the Prisma Guitars name and for me, this is a dream come true. Simple as that.
